Church Issues Statement Following Tragic Fire in Crans‑Montana, Switzerland

Following the tragic fire that occurred in the ski resort town of Crans‑Montana, in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Europe Central Area issued the following statement:

We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the devastating fire that occurred on New Year’s Eve at the Le Constellation venue in the ski resort town of Crans‑Montana, in the canton of Valais, Switzerland.

We grieve with the families and friends who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured, and we express our sincere wishes for a full and complete recovery for the many who continue to receive medical care.

On January 9, 2026, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Switzerland and Europe will join the Swiss government and other faiths to honour disaster victims on the national day of mourning.

We express sincere gratitude for the first responders, medical personnel, and volunteers who acted with courage and compassion in the midst of this tragedy. We pray that comfort, peace, and healing may be felt by all who have been affected. The Church stands ready to offer support and assistance where it is appropriate and welcomed by local authorities and communities.
