Elder Clark G. Gilbert Called as New Apostle

SALT LAKE CITY, February 12, 2026 — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that Elder Clark G. Gilbert has been called as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was called to serve on February 11 and ordained the following day by President Dallin H. Oaks and members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Elder Gilbert, age 55, was raised in Arizona and has served as a General Authority Seventy since 2021 and as commissioner of the Church Educational System since August 2021.

In speaking about his new role, Elder Gilbert shared a message of hope centered on Jesus Christ, “This is an amazing time to point people to the Savior Jesus Christ… When we do that, we can find joy and comfort and peace in Him.”

He emphasized his belief that turning to Christ brings greater meaning, joy, and purpose to people everywhere.

Elder Gilbert’s background reflects a lifelong commitment to both education and faith. He earned degrees from BYU, Stanford, and Harvard, later joining the faculty at Harvard Business School before moving into Church educational leadership, including BYU–Idaho and the global BYU–Pathway Worldwide program.

As he begins this new chapter of service, Elder Gilbert expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness of Jesus Christ and support individuals and families in strengthening faith and hope through Him.
