Groundbreaking Announced for Brussels Belgium Temple

Will be the country’s first house of the Lord

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking date for the Brussels Belgium Temple.

Groundbreaking services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025. Elder Jack N. Gerard, First Counselor in the Europe Central Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

As previously announced, the temple will be built within an existing building at Ave des Arts 52, Brussels, Belgium. Due to the lack of outdoor space, the event will include a short program and dedicatory prayer, but no soil turning.

Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 25,500 square feet, a meetinghouse and arrival facilities.

The temple was first announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson during the April 2021 general conference.

“Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness,” he said then. “Ordinances of the temple fill our lives with [God’s] power and strength available in no other way. We thank God for those blessings.”

The history of the Church in Belgium dates back as early as the 1880s and has grown to a community of Latter-day Saints with nearly 7,000 members in 12 congregations. The Brussels Belgium Temple will be the Church’s first temple in the country.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels, where members and friends of the Church meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a house of the Lord, where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed, so families can be united for eternity. In the temple, Church members can seek peace and guidance, learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow men and women.
